Cap dAgde Naturists Camping and Campsite

Last Updated on November 16, 2023

The campsite in the naturist resort becomes home to tens of thousands of visitors each summer and is situated parallel to the beach and roughly 3 – 5 minute walk from the main resort entrance. Many people ask a wide range of questions on the camping area and I have thus tried to answer some of the most common questions below.

Caravan onsite

When does the campsite open?

No exact date seems to be listed on the official Rene Oltra campsite website but over the last few years.

The campsite though tends to open on or around the 15th of March and then stays open throughout the summer until around the middle to end of October.

This year the campsite opened in the first week of March.

Can I buy a caravan and leave it in France or the resort?

Some people do go to Cap d’Agde for long periods such as anything from 2 weeks through to the whole summer season (which runs from March through to October in the campsite) and buying a caravan, motor home or mobile home, then becomes a consideration and much more practical.

So many people do ask each summer, about buying a caravan and the possibility of leaving it in Agde or in the resort.

There are a few options:

Permanent Spots in the Camp Site

It is possible to get a permanent spot in the campsite within the naturist resort and to do this you have a few options.

  1. You can buy a brand new mobile home from Rene Oltra (who runs the campsite) and in return they guarantee you a permanent spot. You will still have to pay the annual rental fees for the spot and these are roughly EUROS 4000.
  2. Alternatively, if you stay for long periods each summer, in the campsite, then Rene Oltra is known to often invite you to apply for a permanent spot. If you have a permanent spot, it means that you can leave your caravan on the sport all year round and you get favorable rental rates for the year i.e. it works out cheaper than if you rented without a permanent spot.

Leaving your Caravan in a Gardenniage

The next option is to buy rent a spot on the campsite when you need it and to own a caravan which you leave based in what is known in France as a “Gardenniage!

It is basically a caravan storage place and these are very popular in France. Gardenniage’s come in various styles and the best offer storage areas which are undercover, to protect your caravan.

The prices tend to be very cheap i.e. between EUROS 300 and 500 for a year rental space and the beauty of Gardenniage is that they normally include the service of putting your caravan onto your spot at the campsite.

You just need to let them know the camp spot number and the dates and for a fee of usually around EUROS 35, they leave your caravan on your spot, ready for you when you arrive.

They also if you ask, will pump up your tyres and clean the outside of the caravan for a small extra.

All in all, a gardenniage service can be an excellent option for those wanting to stay in the resort for only a few weeks each summer.

You can look on sites such as Le Bon Coin, for caravans, but I think that in general most things, caravans included are cheaper in England (if you are for example coming from the UK).

Rene oltra camping

Will I have access to the entire campsite?

Rene Oltra controls the whole campsite and if you have access to the campsite (you will be given a colored wristband if you are staying there) then you in effect have access to the whole naturist village at Cap d’Agde.

If you are not staying at the campsite, you will have access to the rest of the naturist village except for the campsite, given that the campsite is an enclosed and secure area.

Can I rent a tent at the Campsite?

Another of those questions which comes up time and time again in the forums and which we can asked about on email is whether or not tents and items for camping, can be rented from the campsite within the resort.

The simple answer is that the campsite does NOT rent out tents for those people looking to stay in the campsite.

You are expected to bring your own camping gear and what you will be provided for is an electricity supply (make sure you have the right plug connectors for France) and a large camp spot.

If you do not own the appropriate gear for camping, the campsite also has options to rent 2, 4 and 6-person chalets.

These chalets are a good option if you want to soak up the true naturism atmosphere that exists in the campsite (as opposed to the more swingers style element in some of the main accommodation blocks) then the chalets are a very good option.

The chalets are also not the cheapest i.e. can cost EUR100 + for a very small 2-person chalet and are expensive compared to the camp spots (which are quite large and have plenty of room for a massive tent, vehicle and you will still have space left over.

If you do choose one of the chalets, I personally quite liked the 4-person Neptune Chalet and found that the extra cost was worth it for the extra space. (See http://www.centrenaturiste-oltra.fr/) .

If you have your mindset on camping in the resort then you do have the option of buying a tent and supplies relatively close to the resort given that there are Decathlon Stores in both Beziers and Montpellier (see https://www.decathlon.fr/ for store information and opening hours).

Are the toilet and shower blocks communal or separated?

We have been to the campsite in the last 5 summers and honestly, we’ve never seen separated showers. The showers are mixed.

The shower boxes are just separated by a thin panel, but the front side is completely open. Same thing for sinks.

Only toilets can be closed by a door.

Bring your own toilet paper.

This is concerning the camping. Life in this camping is simple, and people mind their own business.

You will not find anyone staring at you while taking shower.

Does it matter what day of the week I arrive on?

What day of the week you arrive is affected by what type of accommodation service you use i.e. who you book with and what accommodation type you choose.

If you are staying in Hotel Eve, you can normally choose to arrive and depart on any way of the week. It really depends on the availability and the month you are staying.

On the campsite, if you are renting one of the camp spots and using your own tent or motor home, pitches tend to be available from and until any day of the week.

If you are booking one of the chalets in the campsite, there are more restrictions and you will need to check the Rene Oltra website for times/days and availability.

Apartments – There are approx. 6 main agencies offer apartment rental stays in the resort and most of the agencies expect you to arrive on a Saturday and depart on a Saturday.
